peace river

I forgot the feeling of being on the peace river

almost exactly 3 years ago

daisy wine, maroon & myself

floated part of that river

that was fun

the peaceful feeling of being alone

us & nature

nothing else

maybe a goose or 300

a deer on the shore

& our laughter echoing off the banks

this weekend we camped on that river

an island our home

driftwood fire cooking our meals

i'm so glad most of my friends

understand what i'm talking about

I wish all of my friends could

& then the big sun sank

stars poking their way into view

the water sparkling.

& the northern lights

shocking my brain

reminding me how tiny I am

God gave me the best show in the sky

that I had ever seen

stretched all the way from horizon to horizon

dancing so fast my eyes couldn't keep up

I have not been taught what the definition of stardust is.

but I imagine northern lights to be stardust.

& the wind is blowing it across in music like ways.

a violins song guiding

its snaking trail across the stars.

I was in awe.

my neck aching.

but I couldn't take my eyes away.

& now we drive home

the rain pounding the minis windshield

tiny windshield wipers struggling to keep up

i'm scribbling logo designs in my notebook

dreaming dreams that I don't think will happen

waiting for the next adventure

which is next weekend

camping at Beauvais Lake

with all the cousins

my heart is happy

endless trees are watching

as we drive this long road.
