they used to tell me i should have a child

that it was the most rewarding & lovely thing a woman could do

& I believed them

but now I know that it’s true

they put his tiny body on my chest

& the world faded

he was all I saw & all I needed & he was mine

I waited so long & now he was here

his daddy held us & we became

a family of 3

we fall more in love with him every day

waking up to his soft voice wondering

why we are still so tired

& his eyes find ours when we rush to his side

so excited for another new day with him

every moment is like a tiny party

his hands reaching up for us to hold him

his laughter coming in bubbly bursts of joy

his tiny mouth wanting to taste

his eyes

sometimes they wonder

sometimes they sparkle

& sometimes his bottom lip goes out

& big tears roll down his round & perfect cheeks

& we comfort him because we love him
